Buddhist Temple in China Sets Up Anti-Terrorist Squad to Strengthen Security
News sources reveal that Lingyin Temple, a popular Buddhist temple in Hangzhou city, China, has formed an 'Anti-Terrorist' Squad to boost security at the premises. The 'Anti-Terrorist' team is comprised of around 20 monks and over 20 security guards. The Buddhist temple has set up this anti-terrorist group in the wake of a fatal knife attack at a Chinese train station, which occurred during the last month.
The Xinhua news agency discloses that this is the first time that a China-based temple has formed such an anti-terrorist team. Xinhua also adds that the members of the squad are armed with batons, pepper spray and shields.
As per stated by Jueheng, the Buddhist Master of the temple, the 'anti-terrorist' team is formed to protect against terrorist attacks and violence, so that the safety of people having firm faith in Buddhism and visitors, can be ensured. Jueheng mentions that the members of the squad practice Buddhism during the day and partake in training exercises during the night.
However, as revealed by the China News Service, the idea of forming the squad took shape after the attack on Kunming train station in southwestern China. Militants from the far western Xinjiang region were blamed for the attack.
