Indian Home Minister Examines Airport Security Arrangements after Attack at Karachi Airport
After the attack at Karachi airport on the night of June 8, Rajnath Singh, the home minister of India, called a meeting with the chiefs of national security agencies to evaluate the arrangements of security at airports located throughout India. The National Security Advisor, The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the National Security Guard, the Central Industrial Security Force and the chiefs of the Intelligence Bureau participated in the meeting. Among the senior officers, the Secretary of Civil Aviation and the Union Home Secretary took part in the meeting.
News sources reveal that militants from the Taliban group launched a deadly attack on the Karachi airport with suicide vests and rocket launchers. This led to the killing of 28 people. However, the blockade of Karachi airport ended after a battle between the Pakistan's military and the militants that lasted throughout the night.
As a measure to boost airport security, the central government has asked all airports to remain on high alert. The government has stationed Quick Reaction Teams at the airports and anti-hijacking teams have been deployed to perform mock exercises. Apart from that, the government has implemented stringent access regulations at all airports and taken effective measure to boost security across the boundary.
