Modi Government Plans To Set up NMA For Efficient Coordination On Coastal Security

The Narendra Modi government is planning to set up a National Maritime Authority (NMA) to secure a closely united policy making and efficient co-operation on coastal security among the authorities who are handling maritime matters in the country.

The plan to establish a National Maritime Authority has caught the attention of many in the defence sector. But the idea of forming an apex federal maritime organization is not a new concept. News sources reveal that this idea was forcibly suggested after the Mumbai terror attacks that took place in the 26/11, in the year 2008. Besides, this idea also featured on the plan programme of the Cabinet Committee on Security in the form of a maritime security advisory board (MSAB), with a maritime security advisor working as its chief.
