Defence Ministry Issues Internal Investigation Order for Probe Into Security Violation
According to a latest revelation, after the security violation in the sea close to the Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS), the Defence Ministry of India has issued an order for an inquiry into the event and asked for a comprehensive report on it.
News sources disclose that Vishwa Bandhan, a ship belonging to Shipping Corporation of India, was found moored at 3 nautical miles adjacent to the nuclear plant. No ship or trawler was permitted within 5 nautical miles from the margin of Tarapur Atomic Power Station. However, soon after the ship was seen by local fishermen, they informed the police. Thereafter, coastal police initiated their inquiry and asked the ship, which was moving towards Mumbai JNPT, to take away the anchor. Then, after receiving the order, the ship Vishwa Bandhan moved away and headed towards Porbandar in Gujarat.
A spokesperson of the Coast Guard held the Maharashtra police responsible for making mistakes while measuring the nautical miles. The spokesperson mentioned that incorrect information was provided by the fishermen and Satpati police. As per his statement, the coast guard has sufficient data to show that the ship was moored at 6.5 nautical miles from the nuclear plant on 17th March after obtaining the necessary permission. According to him, on 23rd March, the ship removed its anchor and moved towards Porbandar.
